The Alice Springs Gliding Club is run entrely by voluntees and the club usually flies Saturdays only. All members help with running the day, maintenance of gliders, vehicles and buildings, instructing, winch driving and much more.
To allow for 7 day a week operations NT Soaring was established in 2017. NT Soaring is a gliding club in it's own right, but runs the ASGC weekday operations with professional staff.
This allows you to book flights, or learn to fly at any time, when it suits your schedule, and you won't be bound to any other volunteer activities.
Daily business is run full time by Robert Smits and Jenny Ganderton. They are both very experienced pilots and gliding is their life time passion.
Robert has been gliding since he was 13 years old, and has flown in the Netherlands, Germany, France, New Zealand and Australia. He flies regular state and national competitions and holds ratings on more than 40 types of gliders. Robert is a Level 2 instructor, owns several vintage gliders and flies aerobatics. He also holds a RAAus pilot's certificate and various glider maintenance ratings.
Jenny has been gliding for over 30 years. She started off with hang gliding in 1980 and held various world records in hang gliding. She has flown in several womens world hang gliding championships.
Jenny is a professional gliding instructor, flies state and national competitions, is currently ranked 27th in Australia and is part of the Australian Women's Gliding Team.
She is also a tug pilot and RAAus instructor, and holds various glider maintenance ratings.
